15. The New Tone
The first thing youll no doubt notice as you watch through the brand new Evil Dead trailer is the vast shift in tone to that of its source material. Now, Evil Dead was pretty dark, but the macabre tone was offset by some awesomely cheap special effects and a constant tongue-in-cheek sense of gallows humour. That was its selling point. That was precisely
why it was so awesome. And no one is for a moment contesting the greatness of the original. However, do we want the exact same movie again? If anything this trailer promises to push the horror boundaries even further, seemingly remaining somewhat true to the source while at the same time pressing on down more modern cinematic avenues and with the massively inflated budget to boot which Raimi (whos on board as a producer along with Bruce Campbell) is now capable of securing after his rise to power in Hollywood. Maybe the trailer doesnt promise the laughs its source material did; what it does promise is a grittier, more aggressive horror experience. Im not normally one to get excited for a remake, but watching the above trailer, Im starting to believe that
this might actually prove one worth making.
