Extraction Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

1. Chris Hemsworth's Performance

Much of the character work in Extraction is alluded to without ever really being delved into, but that doesn't stop Chris Hemsworth from giving his absolute everything to his role.

His nuanced performance as protagonist Tyler Rake ensures that there's more to him than the script would suggest, elevating his character journey past its weaker moments and carrying the film to greatness whenever necessary.

One one hand, he's an Arnold Schwarzenegger action hero willing to stop at nothing to save the boy, and on the other, he's a guilt-ridden soldier seeking redemption for questionable decisions he made in the past. And even though the script didn't allow us to always see that, Hemsworth ensured that we felt it... and that is far more important.

The MCU veteran has been searching for a defining role outside of Marvel for some time now, and he might have just found it. If anything, Extraction has made this writer excited to see what he does next because he was nothing short of brilliant here.

His best performance yet, maybe? I'll leave that one up to you...
