Fangoria Lives!
The iconic horror publication will be relaunched as a multimedia platform.
Fangoria, the iconic horror brand known for its eponymous magazine, has found a new home after parting ways with previous owner Cinestate in June. Fangoria, along with sister publications Gorezone and Starlog, have been purchased by indie film producer Tara Ansley (Beast Beast, Tragedy Girls) and Atlanta-based entrepreneur Abhi Goel in a deal that maintains both editor-in-chief Phil Noble Jr. and managing editor Meredith Borders. Both Noble and Ansley posted about the news on their respective Twitter pages.
Fangoria was previously purchased and revived by producer Dallas Sonnier as a subsidiary of his Texas-based indie film studio Cinestate. The two companies parted ways after Cinestate was faced with a flood of accusations of sexual misconduct and a toxic working environment on its productions, including the arrest of in-house producer Adam Donaghey for sexual assault of a minor.
The widespread bad publicity led to an exodus of Cinestate-affiliated brands and personnel from the company, including Fangoria and Birth.Movies.Death, which editor Scott Wampler claimed in a Twitter post is "extremely dead".
The deal will see Ansley and Goel relaunching Fangoria is a multimedia brand that will include Fangoria Studios, Fangoria Podcast Network, Fangoria Digital, Starlog Digital and Gorezeone Digital.
"These brands have been a foundational force in genre entertainment for decades, and have inspired, influenced, and shaped generations of filmmakers, writers, actors, and fans — ourselves included,” Ansley said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “We will continue to honor Fangoria’s unparalleled legacy as we propel a future wave of talent and storytellers with an invigorating production and editorial slate that showcases the array of talent representative of our expansive community.”
"There could not be a better time to propel these brands to exciting, culturally diverse new heights,” added Goel in the same article. "Not only are we forging into tantalizing new territories, but we are paving the way for global creators to share their varied heritages and perspectives in never-before-seen storylines that will leave genre fans hungry for more."
