Fantastic Beasts: 21 WTF Moments
3. Where's The Elder Wand?!
JK Rowling may have messed a little with the canon (expelling Newt rather than allowing him to graduate Hogwarts), she seemingly hasn't changed the fact that Grindelwald is the master of the Elder Wand by the time he shows up in Fantastic Beasts. His murderous rampage hinted at at the start of the film seems to confirm as much, given that he's capable of dissolving his enemies and casting a charm to change his appearance (transfiguration doesn't usually involve turning into other people as a rule).
So why is he bothered about anything other than reigning terror over Muggles to pull down the veil between the wizarding world and the normal one? He has the most powerful weapon in the history of magic and he's wasting his time looking for another weapon he doesn't know the extent of which is as temporary as it is volatile (and which could fundamentally be cleared up as a gas explosion much easier).
Also, when he is overcome by the MACUSA and Newt in the finale, where is the Wand there? Why does he rely on "good" spells - he uses what appears to be Stupefy in battle, despite knowing that discovery will be catastrophic - when he cut incapacitate everyone or kill them with the immeasurable power of his wand?
