Fantastic Beasts: 21 WTF Moments
2. The Dumbest Plot Resolution Of All Time?
As soon as the McGuffin of the Swooping Evil venom is revealed, it's pretty obvious that it's going to come back to importance later in the film. The way it does is pretty silly when you think about it.
Sure, a mass obliviate spell put into rain clouds is a nice idea on paper - especially as it gives Frank The Thunderbird a reason to exist - but are we really supposed to believe that an untested venom (which Newt has no idea of the properties of in undiluted form, as he states) would work that perfectly?
And what about all of the people who had witnessed magic but weren't at that exact moment on the streets to be covered in rain, or drinking water (the shot of the family sharing a glass of water is a step too far) or showering? That's a fairly big chance that some witnesses weren't even obliviated at all.
