Fantastic Beasts 3: Mads Mikkelsen Debunks Reports He's Replacing Johnny Depp As Grindelwald
He's still waiting for Warner Bros to call.
After Johnny Depp's controversial firing from Fantastic Beasts 3, many outlets claimed that Mads Mikkelsen was the first in line to replace him as the evil wizard Grindelwad but it turns out that nothing is set in stone yet.
During a recent interview with IGN, Mads debunked all the reports:
"Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I'm waiting for that phone call."
Maybe Mads has signed a NDA and can't confirm his casting or contractual negotiations between the two parties has just begun. Some fans have been vocal about wanting Colin Farrell back as Grindelwald, but the actor is busy shooting his scenes as Oswald Cobblepot on the set of The Batman and therefore is expected to be unavailable.
Fantastic Beasts 3 will be directed by David Yates and will hit theaters in summer 2022 instead of the original November 2021 release date. The main cast of the first two movies will return for its third installment.
