Fantastic Beasts 3: What Went Wrong?

5. Audiences Don't Care About These Characters

Almost every single character in the Harry Potter movies can be considered "beloved" to varying degrees, whether you're talking major leads like Harry, Snape, and Dumbledore, or supporting players like Luna Lovegood and Argus Filch.

Plus, no matter the size of the role, most characters got at least one iconic moment throughout the series - but none of this is true of Fantastic Beasts' core cast.

Sure, a lot of the adoration for those Potter characters stems from the novels, something the Fantastic Beasts crew obviously can't bank on. But all the same, when was the last time you saw a Newt Scamander meme, or a Twitter thread about Queenie and Jacob? When was the last time you saw people talking about Leta Lestrange, or Tina Goldstein? Answer: probably never, because people don't do that.

Search any movie site and chances are, the only conversations you'll see about this franchise will be focused on its downward trajectory or offscreen drama, and a big reason for that is because the Fantastic Beasts characters haven't come anywhere close to hitting the levels of pop-culture relevance that a successful, healthy franchise should have.

There are few interesting or positive conversations to have about this story, this world, or indeed, the characters aimlessly stumbling through it.
