6. The Matagot Attack

Of all the new beasts introduced in the movie, surely the most compellingly strange of the lot is the Matagots, the creepy, cat-like creatures who guard the French Ministry of Magic.

Newt, Tina and Leta end up falling foul of the monsters during their investigations there, and the set-piece that follows almost threatens to be the coolest part of the movie...until the Matagots are quickly done away with and never seen again.

Despite their neat, terrifying design and ability to multiply when attacked, they ultimately prove pretty ineffective in battle. What an anti-climax.
