Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald - 17 WTF Moments
5. Leta's Insanely Creepy Backstory
Just when it seemed like the movie's offputtingly dark moments were done with, the third act serves up a colossal exposition dump to ruin the fun once again.
The flashback-vomit that follows reveals that Leta was the product of rape, and because that's not grim enough, she effectively killed her brother, Corvus Jr., by swapping him with a baby Credence because...he wouldn't stop crying. Yup.
It's all the more bizarre as Newt downplays her actions like they're nothing: "It's not your fault", he says, even though it totally was.
In addition to being unnecessarily depressing and ultimately totally irrelevant to the true nature of Credence's identity, the scene drags on for almost 10 minutes and grinds the film to a near-total halt. Awful.
