Not a single thing in this film manages to be quite as WTF as its final reveal, though. After waiting over two hours to find out who the hell Credence really is, Grindelwald drops the insane bombshell that he's in fact Aurelius Dumbledore, Albus' brother.

This is of course counter to established lore about Dumbledore's family, introducing an extra sibling totally out of nowhere, and timeline-wise the reveal doesn't seem to make that much sense either.

Even if you accept it on its own terms, it feels like a howlingly contrived, lazy way to up the dramatic stakes for the next movie.

Hollywood tentpoles are absolutely obsessed with characters having shoehorned familial relations to one another, and this big reveal ultimately inspired more exasperated laughter and anger than actual intrigue. Yikes.
