Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Review - 5 Ups & 7 Downs
4. The Incredible Production Design
For all of the film's flaws, it sure is a good looking one, especially as it pertains to the meticulous production design, evoking a seamlessly believable late-1920s Paris.
If it's a shame the cinematography is a little on the washed-out side, it's clear that a ton of love has been poured into making Paris feel lived-in and alive, much like New York in the first movie.
It's frustrating that the strong crafts work isn't in a better film, but there's never a moment where it feels like we're simply watching actors on a soundstage: the power of cinema to transport is in full effect indeed.
Don't be surprised if the movie scores a Best Production Design Oscar nomination much like its predecessor.
