3. Joaquin Phoenix

There's no doubting that whatever the role happens to be, Joaquin Phoenix will dedicate himself to it entirely - and there's usually no going back. When establishing this new rebooted franchise, then, it's important that the villain has a certain weight to him that will allow people to be genuinely excited for every moments he's on screen. Casting somebody with the ability to dominate with the authority and intensity that Phoenix is capable of would be a smart move. So although it's sort of unusual to imagine Joaquin Phoenix in a comic book movie, he seems pretty open to projects of all kinds and could certainly make something like this work to his advantage - picture him playing it totally and utterly unhinged, not unlike his performance in The Master. Lots of people think that Phoenix would make an admirable Joker, but for our money he'd be far more effective in a role like this: he could make Doom dark and terrifying.
