He's been described as the most handsome man in Belgium, which isn't necessary a bad thing when you remember that Doctor Doom has to be horribly mauled and mutilated in order to become the iconic villain that we all know and love - and having a handsome actor going from beautiful to "horrific to look at" will certainly inject an added dose of tragedy to the whole affair. Looking at this guy, then, he comes across as sophisticated, smart and... dangerous? If you're unfamiliar with Matthias Schoenaerts, he can be seen in last year's Rust and Bone, for which he won the Cesar Award for Most Promising Actor, and delivered what can only be described as a downright brilliant, complex performance. He's yet to break Hollywood in the same way that our other picks on this list have, but there's something mysterious, strange and potentially tragic about the kind of Doom he might deliver: it would be certainly be different.
