Fast And Furious: Hobbs & Shaw - 7 Ups And 2 Downs

3. The Rock

The Rock is in this movie and, thus, it is good.

Oh you wanted more than that, did you? Fine then, your majesty.

In the past two decades Dwayne Johnson has gone from cinematic novelty, to dependable action star, to Hollywood icon. He's now at the top of every single list of greatest current action stars and, if you're making a big, big movie and there's even the slightest chance you can pin him to it, you categorically do.

Skyscraper, Rampage, Jumanji, Baywatch and, obvs, The Fast and the Furious, he is now the stallion that every single franchise wants to hitch their wagon to and with every single outing the case for that making perfect sense becomes concrete. Don't get me wrong, the movies themselves are often hit and miss, but his performances in him, and his unquantifiable on-screen quality will draw an enthused audience regardless.

Here, Johnson is at his absurd best. His physical stature is routinely the butt of Statham's barbs. That's a 5'10" near-200lbs man regularly making fun of another human being for being jacked and, somehow, it actually works, because it's the Rock. He brings subtly, comedy and heart when he needs to, but mostly he just punches his way through each segment and, who are any of us to argue otherwise.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
