Fast & Furious 9: 20 WTF Moments

13. Roman's Self-Aware Existential Crisis

Seemingly in an effort to combat the obvious complaints about the heroes' apparent invincibility, the script devotes an entire subplot to Roman (Tyrese Gibson) pondering whether the family are, in fact, destined to survive.

This comes after Roman is almost blown up by a mine and then almost crushed to death in the opening Central America set-piece.

While Roman's theory that they're all Special is later soundly laughed off by Tej (Ludacris) and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), it's clearly Justin Lin taking a ridiculously unsubtle, metanarrative crack at fans bothered by the family's increasingly improbable survival.

And then Roman goes to space in a makeshift spaceship, so go figure.
