Fast X Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

4. The Rome Action Sequence Steals The Show

Fast X
Universal

Fast X peaks pretty damn hard with its major first-act set-piece, as Reyes unleashes a bomb upon the streets of Rome in an attempt to blow up The Vatican.

The Family combine their might - that is, their cars - to try and stop the seemingly unstoppable spherical explosive from reaching its target, and it's the single action sequence in the movie that actually feels consistently playful.

Even though it's operating within a familiar sandbox, the heroes using their cars to try and bring a giant object with seemingly endless momentum to a stop makes for plenty of neat coordinated vehicular chaos.

And above all else, it immediately establishes Dante as a villain quite like any other in the series - he'll blow up the Vatican because... why the hell not? Yet the flip-side is that none of the other action in Fast X can hold a candle to the Rome excursion, ensuring it's all downhill from here - fast.
