Fifty Shades of Grey: 10 Actors Who Should Play Christian Grey

3. Christian Bale

Why? If you are even slightly doubting Bale's suitability for this role, go immediately and watch American Psycho. In that early break-out performance he is effervescent, empowered and lascivious to the perfect degree - albeit until he descends entirely down the dark path of insanity - and crucially he had the kind of demons that Christian Grey's entire character is built on. Thanks to the same film, we also know that Bale is unlikely to have too many concerns about nude scenes, and he's likely to be in pretty good shape these days after tuning his body for Bats. Yes, he may be too old in the eyes of the Fifty Purists, but he ticks an awful lot of the boxes for Grey, and it would be wonderful to see him effusing the same kind of cool as he did back when he played Patrick Bateman so wonderfully. And there is no doubting the animal magnetism the actor is capable of. The film would also offer Bale the opportunity to reinvent himself after devoting himself to Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy, which may appeal to the actor, who has so far largely resisted the cruel hand of the type-caster during his career.
