Fifty Shades Of Grey: 10 Things That Make Absolutely No Sense Whatsoever

3. This Is Not BDSM

Fifty Shades was never supposed to be aimed at the existing BDSM community, rather it's main audience is those with little more than a passing curiosity. As such it's been seen as a bit of an eye-opener for the general public as to how these things work and, naturally, attributed to a huge spike in the sales of certain apparatus. The only problem with this though is that if you're using Fifty Shades as your reference point, you've got less chance of enjoying yourself and more chance of ending up in prison. Above all else, the most important thing in any bondage-based relationship is safety. Being aware of the risks, well informed about what you're getting into, and making sure that it's something that benefits both partners equally. Fifty Shades of Grey makes it out to be an entirely male-dominated submissive arrangement that's almost entirely devoid of consent and boundaries. It's easy to laugh at the bad script or the tame sex scenes, but Fifty Shades does little more than normalise manipulation and borderline assault and it's easy to see why it's been as quickly criticised by the film community as it is BDSM enthusiasts.
