Fifty Shades Of Grey Review: 14 Hilariously Awful Moments

Amid a ton of fanfare and anticipation, the long-gestating movie adaptation of E.L. James' trashy erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey finally hits cinemas today, and while the critics are largely out to get it (with just 29% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, despite most agreeing it's better than the book), there's no denying that it's going to rule the box office this weekend and likely end up as one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. Still, even if you're a fan of the source material, you've got to admit it's hardly stylish prose, and while its titillating appeal is self-evident, there's not a lot of mention going on beyond the kinkiness. The same is largely true of the movie, which while ably directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (who is far too talented to be working on something like this) and well-acted by Dakota Johnson (who seems somewhat aware she's in a terrible film), is a s***show of the kind people have been waiting for ever since Showgirls hit cinema screens two decades ago. Even those flat-out against the film from the outset at least won't be completely bored throughout, because there are a ton of unintentionally hilarious moments to keep you going through the rough patches.
