5. Anastasia Puts Jose In The Friend Zone
One of the most infuriatingly over-used characters in romance movies is the girl's best friend who inevitably craves something more with her, but has been put in the friend zone. In Fifty Shades, such a character goes by the name of Jose, and it's evident from the first scene he shares with Ana that he has the raging hots for her, something he tries to take advantage of when they're both drunk at the bar later. Christian sees it, of course, and completely flips his lid. The two later patch things up as Jose appears to accept that he's more like a brother to her than a partner, but you can't help but feel sorry for the guy, who is essentially just a walking cliche. It's not a good sign that he's laughably reminiscent of the friend-zoned character Ricky from the underrated teen movie spoof Not Another Teen Movie, who just can't catch a break despite clearly being better-suited for his crush than the douchebag protagonist. The very same is true here.
