Film Theory: Mad Max Is Actually A Horseman Of The Apocalypse

2. Mad Max Is The Pale Horseman

So what about the last horseman then? The Pale Horseman, that is, the horseman of death, can actually be applied to Mad Max himself. Whilst portrayed as a good guy, a hero, and one who (often begrudgingly) leaves places and people better than he finds them - it’s true that this comes with a wave of death every time. Just think how many perished attempting to follow Max throughout Fury Road alone.

Max is fuelled by his need to right his past, literally haunted by the images of death that he’s suffered through whilst roaming the wasteland. From his family to other innocents caught in the line of fire, it’s this constant push from the force of the dead that keeps him going.

Max is also inherently unkillable. Surviving all sorts of ludicrous situations as well as remaining relatively normal despite radiation being everywhere, he’s as much as force of nature as the power of death itself.

The fact that he’s an O-negative blood donor also serves as important as he can save who he chooses. Max has the power over both life and death, as only death himself would do.
