Film Theory: Mad Max Is Actually A Horseman Of The Apocalypse

1. The Ending And More

By the end of the film then, The Bullet Farmer, The People Eater, and Immortan Joe are killed, but Mad Max carries on as ever. He is a literal force of nature, the only one of the four integral to our sense of being - and whilst conquest and pestilence, war, and famine can be defeated and move in cycles, it’s only death that will remain when it really is the end of days.

The death of the three other horsemen is also symbolic from their lack of senses. Joe has no mouth, representing the lies he spouts to his followers, Farmer has no eyes, for being blind to the violence he inflicts, and Eater has no nose, meaning as much as he consumes, he will never taste it.

All three refuse to listen to reason, which could be a lack of hearing. See, hear, and speak no evil epitomises these characters, and Max’s slaying of them is the final judgement of the horsemen that is passed upon the earth.

To finish, Fury Road is an excellent piece of cinema, and one that can be read in a variety of ways if you apply a few different perspectives from a headstrong feminist movie to a Christian apocalypse.
