Finch Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
1. The Third Act (Mostly) Avoids Cliches
Without going into much detail, the third act of this movie was a real pleasant surprise.
After a relatively relaxed and charming second act that's low on incident and things happening, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that act three would throw in all manner of action-packed complications and shift the focus away from Finch to other human characters.
Thankfully neither of those things are true, the third reel instead holding firm with the straight-forward survival adventure of a man, his dog, and his robot.
The overall outcome of the story won't shock many, but it's shot through with a justified earnestness. A lesser film would've pivoted into action-schlock territory in its finale, but Finch respectably resists the urge and is all the better for it.
