Finch Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. Caleb Landry Jones Brings Jeff To Life
The first time you hear Jeff's voice in the film you might be thrown, because he honestly sounds like a cross between Borat and the Microsoft Speech program.
But in an absolute design masterstroke, the decision was made to have Jones' real voice become increasingly discernible over the course of the movie as Jeff learns to become "more human" from Finch.
Though Jones' own voice isn't recognisable for much of the film's first half, it gradually creeps in and eventually lends a childlike dimension to the character.
Combined with his impressive physical performance, which Sapochnik claims was translated almost verbatim into digital form, Jones is an absolutely vital piece of the puzzle in ensuring the film actually connects emotionally.
