21. Nemo's Namesake
Right at the beginning of the quest that takes them to California, Marlin, Nemo and Dory are attacked by a giant squid that lives in the wreck of a cargo ship. They barely escape with their lives, prompting Marlin to admonish Dory and leading to her disappearing accidentally again.
The moment actually calls back to Nemo's naming. He is of course named after the central star of Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. In that classic book too, Nemo narrowly escapes being killed by a giant squid (one of his crew isn't so lucky).
