Finding Dory Review: 7 Ups And 3 Downs

2. The Extrafication Of The Other Stars

Finding Nemo
Pixar

It's probably right that Nemo and Marlin are brought back for the film, but they're largely unimportant as anything other than narrative devices. And brief ones at that: it's a shame, but if you removed them from 80% of the film, the plot simply wouldn't change (since other minor characters could fill their roles in the various set-pieces later on).

The pair are just sort of there, bickering about Marlin's cynicism and enabling more interesting things and characters to happen, like Becky and the sea lions. It's inevitable, of course, because this is Dory's film, but it's so noticeable that it actually ends up being pretty distracting.
