First Man Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

4. It's Got One Of The Year's Best Ensemble Casts

As splendid as Gosling and Foy are, they're propped up at all times by one of the most mind-bogglingly stacked ensemble casts of not just this year, but any year.

Especially memorable are Jason Clarke as astronaut Ed White, the ever-reliable Kyle Chandler as NASA official Deke Slayton and Corey Stoll as a famously douchey Buzz Aldrin, though there are many more great bit-parts in the film.

In fact, it's a ton of fun spotting a new famous face pop up every few minutes, with the likes of Pablo Schreiber, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas, Shea Whigham, CiarĂ¡n Hinds and others filling out the stellar cast.

Everyone hits their markers and gives it their all, ensuring that even the most stern and talky scene has plenty to savour.
