So far, DC FanDome has well and truly lived up to the hype, delivering new nuggets of information and first-look footage for a whole host of various DC Comics-driven projects – and in amongst the projects covered at DC FanDome, is Dwayne Johnson’s long-gestating Black Adam movie.

Johnson has been tied to Black Adam for a decade by this point in the time, with the picture having been stuck in development hell until The Shallows’ Jaume-Collet Serra boarded the project last June.

From DC FanDome, not only have we been given our first two teasers for Black Adam, but there’s also the reveal that the Justice Society will be a part of the film.

By the looks of it, Black Adam’s Justice Society will consist of Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher. Already, Noah Centineo – who recently signed on to star as He-Man in Paramount’s big-screen Masters of the Universe reboot – has been announced as playing Atom Smasher in Black Adam, and now it remains to be seen who will land the film’s other key roles and just how the Justice Society will interact with Black Adam.

For those needing some background on Black Adam, the character made his comic book bow in 1945’s Marvel Family #1, where he was originally known as Teth-Adam of Kahndaq. An all-powerful sort with god-like abilities, Black Adam has been depicted as both an out-and-out villain and an anti-hero over the decades. When in full villain mode, though, the hero he most often finds himself butting heads with is Shazam – a character these days played by Zachary Levi on the silver screen.

Black Adam is currently scheduled for a December 22, 2021 release.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic.
