Friday The 13th: 10 Funniest Jason Voorhees Kills
3. Paintballing Gone Wrong
Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives is really where the franchise began to embrace the more comedic elements in the slasher subgenre, with a lot more meta-references, fourth wall breaks, corny music, and shot choices.
Early into the film, Jason stumbles across a corporate game of paintball and quickly begins dispatching the party members. One member of the party is shown separated from the group and going full Rambo with his machete, before Jason catches up to him and grabs his arm.
Jason then proceeds to throw the paintballer into a tree, leaving a simple bloodied smiley face engraved into the wood. An extra comedic touch is thrown in when the camera pans back on to Jason, who looks down in confusion at the dismembered arm still holding the machete, with the movie being the first one to introduce the killer as a supernatural zombie with huge strength.
From the interactions of the paintballing party, to the way in which Jason ends up shrugging off his superhuman powers as nothing more than interesting development, everything about this sequence screams of a subtle shift towards a more comedic route, which would help make Part VI one of the best in the series.
