Friday The 13th Series: Jason's 10 Best Kills

It feels odd to be naming Jason Goes To Hell in the number one entry of a Friday the 13th ‘best of’ list. The ninth movie, which temporarily brought the series to a close in 1993, strays pretty far from the standard series format by introducing a new conceit (never revisited in subsequent sequels) that Jason is not an unkillable man, but a demonic parasite which possesses host bodies. Yikes.

The film sees 'Jason' move from body to body, with the classic Jason only appearing sporadically - to the extent that it really doesn’t feel much like a Friday the 13th movie at all.

However, in this one particular scene, it pretty much sums up everything Friday the 13th is about. Deborah (Michelle Clunie) is having energetic sex with her boyfriend in a tent, with her on top – when all of a sudden, Jason’s machete comes tearing through from behind and splits her right up the middle.

Even by Friday the 13th standards, this moment is unusually extreme, and unsurprisingly it was toned down for the original R-rated US cut – but it may well be the most unforgettable, eye-opening kill of the series. Pity the remainder of the film couldn’t match that standard - and pity it wasn't the 'real' Jason that dealt the killing blow.
