The promotional campaign for Frozen 2, the sequel to Disney’s 2013 megahit Frozen, kicked off in February with the mysterious and atmospheric teaser, which managed to excite and impress even the most jaded fan.

A new poster and trailer followed a few weeks ago, confirming that Anna and Elsa would get the opportunity to travel “into the unknown” and deal with several mystical forces. However, the most important revelations about Frozen 2 took place at the Annecy Film Festival, one of the biggest showcases for animation in the world. Here, two members of the animation team revealed information about the first ten minutes and previewed two full scenes.

With production of Frozen 2 nearly over, speculation about the finished product is really growing. However, it is impossible to deny that the promotional material released so far has been incredibly promising, confirming Frozen 2 as one of the major blockbusters of 2019. It has also raised a host of questions that will keep the fans guessing until 22nd November...

10. How Will Olaf Be Used?

When Frozen was nearing release, animation fans were certain that they would hate Olaf, the summer-obsessed snowman created by Elsa. He dominated the marketing campaign at the expense of the main protagonists, with the initial teaser (showing him and Sven fighting over a carrot) proving especially notorious.

When the film was released, Olaf actually became quite popular due to his warm-hearted nature and his unusual interests. However, a little of the summer-loving snowman goes a long way, and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure received a hostile response when it was given a cinema release alongside Coco. It turned out that giving Olaf a 20 minute “short” and making it a cinematic double bill with one of Pixar’s most acclaimed films of the 2010s was pretty excessive.

The trailers have confirmed that Olaf will play a prominent part in Frozen 2, as he accompanies Anna and Elsa on their quest. It will be likely that he will get plenty of opportunities to make wisecracks and amusing comments, and the Annecy preview included a scene where he uses his snowman body to dominate a game of charades.

For all his goofiness, Olaf has a pretty valuable role in the Frozen universe, as he embodies the bond between Anna and Elsa. This means that he should get a lot of screen time in Frozen 2, but too much of him could undermine the darker elements of the story. Fundamentally, we don’t want him to take the focus away from Anna and Elsa again.
