Frozen 2: 10 Key Questions You Should Be Asking
9. How Will The Time Jump Affect Everyone?
Disney and Pixar often leave long gaps between their official sequels, which can lead to significant time jumps between two instalments. Ralph Breaks the Internet was set six years after the original, whilst the Toy Story series owes much of its appeal to the way in which the toys react to the growth of owners.
Frozen 2 will have a fairly big time jump, taking place three years after the original. Anna and Elsa’s relationship is stronger than ever, and Kristoff and Olaf are still part of the “Frozen Family”. Frozen inspires more fanfics than any other Disney film and three years of changes and adventures happening off screen will really provide fuel for the Frozen fandom.
It will be interesting to see how the time jump has affected Anna and Elsa. People can change a lot in three years, and we probably expect both be far stronger than they were last time we saw them. If Anna remains too naïve and Elsa is too paralyzed by her fears, then fans will be immensely frustrated by their lack of development, and detractors will become even louder.
That said, Anna and Elsa’s major flaws were closely linked to the distinctive personalities which made them stand out from previous Disney princesses. Anna’s headstrong nature and Elsa’s struggle to come to terms with her incredible powers are what makes them such appealing and relatable leads, but these traits need to be explored in a new way.
