Frozen 2: 8 Revelations From The First Trailer
4. The Repurposed Score
To say that there is a marked change in the style of advertising between the first trailer for the original Frozen and this trailer is a bit of an understatement.
That first trailer for Frozen essentially sold it as a buddy film between Olaf and Sven, a happy-go-lucky winter film with nothing but good vibes and holiday cheer to offer. Comparatively, this trailer eschews any cute gimmicks and puts the narrative front and centre, focusing much more on the characters themselves and striking a tone that's far more serious and grim.
One of the greatest contributors to this somewhat ominous tone is the score for the trailer, which effectively builds tension through the use of some mood-setting strings but really brings it home when the melody from Vuelie, one of the songs from the original film's soundtrack, comes crashing in. Hearing the once joyous opening chant juxtaposed by these harsh minor chords is thrilling and rather brilliantly sells the sequel as a more mature follow-up to the joyfulness of the original.
