Frozen 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Ups...
5. The Terrific Songs
After Frozen's marquee tune "Let It Go" became a pop-culture phenomenon, in addition to winning an Oscar and a Grammy, the sequel was always going to have a tough time living up to the same epic pomp.
But impressively, despite not quite matching the majesty of the original's signature track, Frozen 2 does deliver a number of terrific songs, and two which actually get surprisingly close to Let It Go's catchy thrall.
The spectacular "Into the Unknown" has been touted as Frozen 2's title track, though "Show Yourself" is arguably the film's real winner, a brilliantly bombastic climax which gives Idina Menzel and Evan Rachel Wood a soaring opportunity to riff off one another.
Elsewhere, "Lost in the Woods" is an hilarious 90s power ballad throwback starring Kristoff, and Anna's (Kristen Bell) "The Next Right Thing" is a shockingly affecting song about depression and loss.
You could certainly argue that Frozen 2 boasts a greater variety of memorable songs, even if those unreasonably hoping for a Let It Go-killer might feel ever-so-slightly deflated. The songs certainly deliver, though.
