Gambit: 4 Reasons It Could Be Awesome (And 4 Why It Could Suck)
4 Reasons It Could Be awesome...
4. It'll Let Fox Explore New Genres
If there's one thing that the MCU has taught us since its inception, it's that superhero movies no longer have to stick rigidly to a set sub-genre. The Winter Solider showed us a political thriller, Age Of Ultron gave us a war movie and Guardians Of The Galaxy was unbridled cosmic sci-fi. Comparatively though, the tone of the X-Men movies has stayed very consistent since it debuted at the turn of the millennium, with uneasy teammates and morally grey adversaries fighting grand battles to reach the same ideal by different methods. Being a solo film, Gambit doesn't have to stick to that blueprint, and indeed Fox have already started making noises that it will be more akin to a sexy heist movie than anything else when it does hit the screen. It makes sense saying as how Gambit starts life as a thief, rogue and scoundrel (think of a spicy, southern-fired Han Solo and you'll be close), and if Fox gets this one right it could open the door to a whole new world of possibilities for mutant movies.
