Gemini Man Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. The 3D Presentation Is Worth Seeing

So much has been said about Gemini Man's HFR style that the fact it's also presented in 3D has largely been ignored. But to Lee's credit, the 3D on offer is actually relatively decent, having been shot natively in the format to ensure the maximum visual fidelity.

Lee doesn't go overboard trying to make objects pop out of the screen, but 3D is used well to discern between different planes of depth and movement.

There are even moments where it combines dizzyingly with the HFR: a late-film shootout sees machine-gun fire whizzing around our heroes, and the 3D HFR combo makes it seem decidedly more frenetic than a conventional 2D film ever could.

Of course, the problem is that all of the movie's 3D screenings are accompanied by HFR, which is so often a distracting counter-weight to the immersive 3D.

All things considered if you're going to see the movie in cinemas at all, you may as well see it in the version Lee intended, peculiar though it is.
