Gemini Man Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

3. The Dull Action Sequences

Gemini Man Will Smith Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Paramount Pictures

You'd think that with the movie's unique presentation, Lee would really want to push the action as far as he possibly could, and yet, the overwhelming majority of the action sequences are totally bland and forgettable.

It doesn't help that most of the coverage is annoyingly tight and claustrophobic rather than letting the 3D HFR format soak in clear, crisp wides, and Lee makes the baffling decision to stage much of the action in dark lighting conditions.

Despite Lee proving with Life of Pi his ability to craft jaw-dropping set-pieces, almost everything here feels totally stock and generic, while lacking the flair fans of Lee's typically expect.
