Geostorm Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

Awful...but also kinda awesome.

Geostorm Gerard Butler
Warner Bros.

More than three years after it started production, the Gerard Butler-starring disaster movie Geostorm is finally out in the wild.

To the surprise of just about nobody, it's received a thorough critical drubbing so far, delivering disaster movie cheese in spades as pretty much everyone expected.

To that end, though, there will certainly be those who get plenty of perverse joy out of watching this movie, especially with a few beers to-hand, because it's pretty much tailor-made for late-night viewing with as many friends as you can round up.

On its own terms, though, it's an almost objectively terrible piece of filmmaking, a fascinatingly bad work of Hollywood excess that you certainly won't be forgetting any time soon.

Whether its ironic merits will be enough to make it a cult classic remains to be seen, but Geostorm is nothing if not an amusingly bold exercise in maximum stupidity...
