Gerard Butler: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Kable - Gamer (2009)

Lionsgate

The film itself might not be the worst ever put to film, but it's still by no means anything other than average. In a future where gamers can "play" as real-life death row inmates in a shoot-em-up arena, Gerard Butler plays Kable, a popular "character" in the game.

Almost as expected from a main character who's controlled by other characters, Kable makes for a fairly bland protagonist, and the material does nothing to bring out Butler's strengths as an actor.

When he's paired with Michael C. Hall's far more charismatic villain, it's akin to seeing cardboard walking, talking and shooting on the screen. Action sequences that should be enjoyable are dulled by Butler's lifeless energy - it's like he just couldn't be bothered to put the energy into Gamer. A poor showing from Butler, and a worse career decision.
