Jonathan Glazer's (Sexy Beast) film is frequently heralded as one of the best sci-fi movies of the 21st century, a haunting, startlingly grounded look at how peculiar an alien arriving on Earth (Scarlett Johansson) might find humanity.

Johansson's curious yet eerily detached performance is unquestionably her best to date, while Glazer expertly melds the banal everyday with the more heightened, surreal nature of the alien's activities to dizzying effect.

As if that's not enough, it's got some marvelously Kubrickian visuals (and a sedate pace to boot), complete with an unforgettably creepy score from the incomparable Mica Levi. It won't be for everyone, but open-minded genre fans just might love it.
