After Johnasson did such a great job of bringing a mostly non-sexualised, badass female action hero the screen with the mega-successful Lucy this summer (you hear that, Marvel?), it'd be a shame if Ghost In The Shell had her relegated back to a figure to be objectified rather than a totally boss character who gets things done. Then again, that's just if they look to the other films for inspiration. If the Ghost In The Shell film draws mainly from the original manga, as all the reports out of DreamWorks seem to be implying, they could wind up with something worse. Masamune Shirow, you see, is a huge pervert. When he finally got around to doing a sequel to his series, it was a break from what he'd mostly been doing in the meantime. Which was mostly weird fetish illustration. Mamarou Oshii did everyone a favour cutting down the nudity in his Ghost In The Shell film, because there was a lot of it in the comics, and all of it totally unnecessary. Studio Proteus agreed, since when they published their English translation they cut out a scene where the Major has a virtual reality threesome on a boat for no discernible reason. 2016's 50 Shades Of Grey for you there.
