Ghostbusters: 11 Things That Must Happen In The Sequel
5. Tone Down The Product Placement
A small but undeniably grating aspect of the new movie is the abundance of product placement, something that the original movies were in no way free of either.
There's a scene where the team eats a Papa John's pizza (highly implausible considering that they're New Yorkers), but the most egregious placement occurs early on, when the gang first encounter a ghost and Kristen Wiig gets vomited on.
At the time, Kate McKinnon's character is snacking away on a tube of Pringles all while McCarthy's character is filming the ghost with a Sony camera...which Paul Feig lovingly closes in on to ensure we can all see the logo.
Sure, many will go the entire movie without noticing things like this, but considering they're shot in a blatantly pandering way and most of the featured products aren't remotely necessary to the plot, it is kind of insulting, and definitely annoying.
If this movie does well enough at the box office, perhaps Sony will have more confidence in the sequel so as not to shove so many promotions in it. Nah, if it's a hit they'll probably just throw even more paid placement in the mix next time...
