Ghostbusters 3: 10 Suggestions to Make It Not Suck

8. Make it For Love and Money

I€™m all too aware that cinema is a monetary endeavour. They call it show business after all. However when too much mind is paid to business and too little to the show, bad movies are made. That€™s when you get your Dumber and Dumberer; your Blues Brothers 2000. I guess what I€™m trying to say is that Ghostbusters III represents an opportunity to validate over twenty five years of collective public enthusiasm, not just an opportunity to cash in on that ever present €˜ready-made audience€™. In all honesty, I€™m sceptical. Is Ghostbusters III being made primarily because it should be, or because now represents the right time for Hollywood to make that ever-important quick buck off of previous successes? If it€™s honestly, truthfully an equal mixture of both, then we might just be in for the commercial and critical success that Ackroyd, Ramis and Reitman €“ as well as us as fans of course - are clearly hoping for. However if, and this is what I truthfully suspect, the primary concern is business over show, then we€™re looking at yet another undue murder of a fan favourite franchise at the hands of its creators (see also: Star Wars). Ask yourself, is it really necessary? If the answer is no, then you have to then ask why is it getting made? I hope to god it€™s because its creators love it and feel that it needs another day in the sun and not that they€™ve simply spotted another avenue of income.
