Ghostbusters: Afterlife Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

1. The WILD Climax

The third act of the movie may be where Afterlife most blatantly hearkens back to the original, but it's also where it best approximates its madcap energy also.

While most of the set-pieces throughout the film are fairly tepid and lacking in true creativity, the finale amps up the zany absurdity while letting loose with a ton of wacky VFX which clearly comprised a large chunk of that $75 million budget.

It doesn't all work, but given the otherwise surprisingly restrained, even sober approach to being a Ghostbusters movie of all things, it's neat to see the third act just throw everything to the wall and see what sticks.

Not all of it does, for sure, but at least enough to show most fans an entertaining time.
