Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Review - 7 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Only Real Ghost Shown Looks A Bit... Rubbish

There are spectral presences in the trailer, but as already qualified, the agenda has very much been on showing very little and teasing a lot. So there are atmospheric shots, indirect hauntings and vague effects that don't really mean much beyond their emotional impact. It's clever.

Unfortunately, there is one ghost in there and once you see it, it's hard to unsee it. Because it doesn't look great.

It appears that the ghost, which appears in the ECTO-1 sequence and was probably freed by the kids accidentally when they find the Ghost Trap is a take on the ghost from the Ghostbusters logo. It's a sort of marshmallowy, Slimer-like character with a cartoon clown shape and the effects work that's gone into it leaves a lot to be desired.

Quite why it even needs to be in there at all is anyone's guess.
