Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Review - 7 Ups & 4 Downs

3. It Doesn't Quite Convince Why It Needs To Be Ghostbusters

From a mainstream audience point of view, there's not quite enough in here to suggest that this is actually a Ghostbusters film primarily. And in the wake of the Cloverfield movies and their cynical universe expanding, any suggestion that this might have been a different story adapted to fit Ghostbusters and not an original is unfortunate.

That might not be the case - and it's not what's been said in the marketing so far - but it's hard to shake the feeling that this isn't yet quite a Ghostbusters film. Yes it looks like a good film with a great cast and it has an engaging tone and nice story hints, but it could also exist in its OWN universe without the link to the Ghostbusters.

It just feels like they've stripped it all back a tiny bit too much.
