Ghostbusters Ending: 8 Potential Clues For The Sequel
4. The Government's Turning A Blind Eye
The way Ghostbusters leaves New York is rather similar to the status quo at the end of the 1984 original; the gang save the day and are heralded as heroes. The big difference between the two is that in the remake the government is instigating a cover-up, claiming just about anything in space of the truth. It's obviously to better fit the more grounded style of modern movies, where real life concerns pop up in criticism, but also pays off the anti-authority subplot and hopefully hints at what we might expect in the future.
Ideally in future films we'll see the mayor and his cronies take a step back (although not completely - it'd be great to have more Andy Garcia) and let the gang go full pelt into the world of the supernatural; the fight for the freedom to do their jobs is fine enough, but it is pretty played out in the Ghostbusters series by now.
