Ghostbusters Ending: 8 Potential Clues For The Sequel
5. Spin-Offs!
Is there any word more thrilling to the human soul? Not if you're a Hollywood exec (although whether they have souls is up for debate); every franchise, from Star Wars to Transformers, is getting offshoots from their original main series with an eye for complete marketing dominance, and Ghostbusters is no different.
Little is known about Sony's plans for the franchise and the film doesn't really give up any details, but it does still establish the possibility of spin-offs before the studio logos are over; one of those logos is for "Ghost Corps", a Sony subsidiary created in 2015 to explicitly expand Ghostbusters from a handful of movies into a massive shared universe franchise.
It's subtle, but it marks the normalising of the company and moves us towards that long-mooted Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe. If that sounds unpalatable, consider this: there's no major action-comedy franchise about at the moment, and more varied films means we should be able to get away from the standard series formula (three films in and they all follow the same basic structure).
