Glass: 16 WTF Moments

12. The Totally Forced Casey Subplot

Glass James McAvoy Anya Taylor Joy
Universal

Because Glass is a movie that wants to be a direct sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, Shyamalan of course brings back The Horde's sole surviving victim Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy), even though it adds virtually nothing interesting to the narrative.

Taylor-Joy tries with what little she has, but the nature of Kevin and Casey's relationship ends up fundamentally altered to suit the dramatic needs of this movie.

She smiles at Hedwig and doesn't seem to disagree when he draws a parallel between them, that they've both suffered familial abuse and are therefore " the same."

Then there's the random revelation that Casey has a certain physical hold over Kevin and is capable of preventing The Beast from emerging by touching him. From this to ultimately sobbing over his corpse and kissing his forehead at the end of the movie, it all ends up feeling a bit forced and unearned.

It's not totally unbelievable that Casey would feel sorry for the innocent personalities among The Horde, but it's just tough to believe she'd agree to be within 100 miles of the guy, honestly.
