Glass Reviews: 12 Early Reactions You Need To See

2. Anya Taylor-Joy's Role Is Mostly Pointless

"Anya Taylor-Joy plays the lone survivor of one of his killing sprees, and despite her soulful presence there’s not a lot the actress can do with this sketchy and sentimental role." - Variety
"Casey shows up mostly to play out a weird and lazy “beauty can tame the beast” arc with her former kidnapper." - Forbes

Now, this isn't terribly surprising. Anya Taylor-Joy gave a splendid performance in Split as Casey, the sole survivor of The Horde's rampage, and the trailers for Glass didn't make much of a case for her making anything more than a superficial fan-service return.

According to early reviews that's exactly what it is, and though Taylor-Joy typically gives a solid performance, Casey's presence is completely unnecessary to the core story beyond giving the movie an additional callback to Split.

The fact that this dynamic is being compared to Beauty and the Beast isn't terribly encouraging, either.
